China Mobile desperate to convince Steve Jobs for iPhone deal

Chine Mobile is reported to be desparate to have a deal with Steve Jobs to sell iPhone on its specialized TD-SCDMA network. But up till now no deal has been signed yet.

China Mobile Chairman Wang Jianzhou confirmed that he had met with Apple CEO Steve Jobs to discuss bringing a customized version of the phone to the carrier. He said that "I met Steve Jobs several times already, but we haven't come to an agreement yet," Wang said. "All I can say is, it's a common wish of China Mobile and Apple to come to an agreement as soon as possible."

If this deal is signed Apple needs to produce iPhone compatibe with SCDMA technology. That 3G signal is not compatible with the current iPhone that are being shipped tp other carriers. That means that users have to go to lower speed i.e. 2G in order to enjoy the pleasures of iPhone. Strangely this fact has not yet decreased the popularity of iPhone in such countries.

Please note that China Mobile is three times the size of AT&T and Verizon. Currently Apple is dealing with China Unicom only in this market.
